Bingo has been a part of the UK culture for more than sixty years. At the end of the Second World War and especially during the fifties and sixties bingo was as big as fish and chips and Coronation Street. Two or three or maybe more times a week, British housewives would drop everything and set off for their local bingo hall for a few sessions of “housie, housie” with their pals. Sometimes they would get lucky and win a big prize and even luckier when they won a major prize where several bingo halls would link up to set a national prize.
It didn’t matter if it was raining or snowing outside, nothing would stop the bingo lovers from getting to their session and it seemed like the bingo craze would last forever.
However things change and gradually the companies who were running the bingo halls were finding it more difficult to pull in crowds and the halls became fewer and fewer till they almost totally disappeared from the UK map.
But nothing can keep a bingo lover down! These days the internet has more than succeeded in filling the gap caused by the disappearance of traditional bingo halls and now bingo games are easy to start more than they ever were. Followers of the game are now able to play bingo from the comfort of their favorite chair in their very own home, thanks to the numerous online casinos and bingo halls now in existence.
While the essence of the game itself remains the same, there are a few subtle differences between land-based bingo and online bingo.
Perhaps not the least is the convenience in hours! For those who work odd shifts or those with kids who need to follow a specific bedtime it’s not always possible to get out of the house to go play a game or two of Bingo. Once you have the time though, it’s not further away than a few clicks of the mouse, meaning that you are not wasting valuable leisure time and money travelling from one bingo hall to another.
For those who think that online bingo lacks the socialization aspect…not so. With the introduction of auto-daubers, you can now sit back and chat with fellow bingo fans while the game is being played, without fear that you’ll miss out on a number that is called.
What separates online bingo for what was once played in halls across the UK is that the first prize is not shared among twenty players or even a hundred, but possibly among two hundred or even two thousand. Progressive prizes at online bingo sessions are starting to become fairly common, and these sessions might have even tens of thousands of participants with prizes to match.
These are the reasons why online bingo has caught on so fast. Bingo games are so much easier to start, it is fast moving, exciting and everyone has a fair and chances of winning a jackpot, some of which make the traditional bingo hall roll up jackpot look like small change.
