Although it may seem pretty simple, but the truth is how a player bets will often determine if he ends a blackjack session in front instead of being in the hole.
That's why learning how blackjack betting works can be as important as learning how to play the game itself. The reason why that is not every bet at a blackjack table can be won, and it's important for a player to understand that pacing their bêtes will keep them in the race for so much longer. And the longer they are at the table the better the chance they have of winning and having a good time while doing so.
When playing blackjack online a player has none of the restrictions that can and will arrive at a land casino. They can bet on just one hand or every one of the possible six on the table. This betting format known as spreading bets can be a very good way of lowering risks. However if the bank gets really lucky a player can lose all of their bets instead of just one.
Once a player has decided how many hands they want to play on each deal, then the next step is to decide how little or how much they want to bet. Most online casinos will have a minimum and maximum stake limit. However the limits only apply to the initial stake placed before the cards are dealt. Player is not allowed their initial stakes under any circumstances once the cards have been dealt.
What they can do is double down on certain card combinations (nine, ten or eleven-either hard or soft). Double down means doubling the original stake.
Another blackjack rule that allows a player to raise their bets is by splitting a pair of cards (in a land casino not all pairs that can be split, but in online casinos there is no pair combination that cannot be spilt). Obviously it will take a very brave player (or a very stupid one) to split tens or even nines, but anything else is worth a shot.
Players who have split card can often find themselves in a position when they can double down on the cards that they split if a certain combination comes up. For example if they have split twos and then draw a nine, they can double down. This means that they have increased their initial bet three times.
The only other way that a player can raise their initial stake is when they draw a blackjack and the bank deals themselves an ace as their opening card. If this situation arises the player can but "insurance" equal to the level of their initial stake. If the bank hits blackjack they lose their initial stake but get even money on their insurance bet, In other words they get their stake money back.
These are the simple ins and outs of how blackjack betting works. Good luck at the tables!
