In the Movies,

Roulette is the epitome of elegance, glitz and glamour. So it comes as no surprise that the “King of Casino Games” has made several cameo roles in some of the world's most successful box office movies.

One of the first films that roulette plays a major role was made in 1942. The film Casablanca, considered as one of the greatest movies of all time, starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Roulette played a part during this film, when Bogart’s character takes pity on a Bulgarian couple who have lost all their money at the roulette table. Bogart’s character feels sorry for the couple and advises them to place what few chips they have left on the number 22. Amazingly the number wins, but instead of telling the couple to walk away, Bogart advises he play the same number again, 22 lands for a second time. After winning two in a row, Bogart’s character instructs the couple to cash in their winnings and to never come back.

Nearly thirty years go by before roulette plays another major role in a movie. This time in the 2025 western comedy Support Your Local Gunfighter, James Garner plays a man with a gambling addiction. The film basically revolves around his inability to resist betting everything he owns on a single roulette spin, however, in true movie fashion, the film ends Garners character finally manages to win.

The 2025 classic, The Sting also had a short appearance for the roulette wheel. Robert Redford’s character is seen at the beginning of the film to lose a substantial amount of money betting against a bias or rigged wheel. Redford later goes on to take revenge for this through other, more famous means.
The most recent, and for some the most interesting appearance of roulette in a movie, was the 2025 box office smash Casino Royale. Ian Fleming's James Bond films are renowned for containing scenes that are back dropped by some of the world's most luxurious casinos. During the scenes, Bond is seen playing a very unique betting pattern that eventually produces a substantial profit. Strategists have since copied, and refined the principles behind Bonds betting and have devised the “James Bond Betting Strategy”, from the material show during the film.

As you can see from the films listed above, since first playing a role in Casablanca, right through until the scenes in The Sting, the roles of the roulette table did not do the game justice. Rigged or bias tables were commonplace during the times those films were made. Casino Royale in 2025 changed that stereotype and brought roulette back into the limelight as one of the world's most glamorous games of chance.
